Wedding Ring Workshop

Congratulations! If you’re here, then you’re thinking about doing something cool to commemorate your relationship!

There’s 2 different methods to making your rings together. One way is fabrication and the other (which involves more fire!) is casting. I’ll explain both methods below to help you figure out which direction you are leaning towards.

The price includes the cost of silver, however, if you want to use white gold, 14 karat gold, or attach prong settings, then I will adjust for the market price on those as well as the time.

FABRICATION

Duration: 2-3(ish) hours
Cost: Starting at $200/ person with silver

This method involves taking half round or flat wire and forming it into a ring. This involves measuring your ring size, sawing the length needed, forming it around a mandrel, and soldering the seam shut. Before this process, texture can be applied if it’s desired. Otherwise, after the seam is compete, you’ll file, sand, and polish your rings!

CASTING

Duration: 2 days (2-3 hours each day)
Cost: Starting at $350/person with silver included

On day 1, students will carve their ring out of wax and attach it to the sprue which will create a system for metal to flow through. Investment, which is similar to a plaster, will be mixed and poured into the canister with your wax in it’s sprue system. This will then cure for at least 12 hours (overnight) and then burn out in the kiln for 6 hours.

On day 2, you’ll both return to the studio where we will go over safety and getting familiar with the centrifugal casting system. When ready, metal will be melted in the crucible and forced into the canister where it will spin until it has slowed down. Once it has cooled and quenched, you’ll spend the next couple hours cleaning, filing, sanding, and polishing your rings!
